Employer Responsibilities
  • Provide a contract of employment for the duration of the apprenticeship.
  • Pay the apprentice’s salary.
  • Assign a workplace mentor.

How to Recruit a Degree Apprentice in Wales

Step-by-Step Guide
  1. Identify Skills Needs
    Consider current and future skills gaps in your business.
  2. Connect with a Welsh University or College
    Universities and colleges help design programmes tailored to your business.
  3. Agree the Programme Structure
    Programmes typically last 3–5 years with around 20% university time.
  4. Recruit or Upskill Staff
    Apprentices must be employed in Wales for at least 51% of their time and meet university entry requirements.
  5. Access Funding
    Tuition fees are fully funded by the Welsh Government. Employers cover the apprentice’s salary.
  6. Advertise the Role (if recruiting)
    Use the Apprenticeship Vacancy Service (AVS) for free as well as your own recruitment channels.
  7. Support the Apprentice
